On 11 July 2018, British Airways flight BA 199 departed at its scheduled time of 9:25 pm from London toward its destination Mumbai; however, it had to be diverted mid-air to Azerbaijan’s capital Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport at 6:29 am on July 12 due to a technical snag in the left engine of the aircraft.

After the emergency landing, there was total chaos at the airport, since the
passengers were neither given updates on the next course of action nor any food and beverage.

As per the EU regulations (EC 261/2004), the airline was liable to pay 600 Euros as compensation to each passenger. Other than the compensation, passengers were also entitled to free accommodation and food.

However, such was not the case. The passengers were left stranded with only a little support from the crew members. According to an Instalocate user,
Mr. Bajaj(name change), his family members had to sleep on the floor, and there was no help provided by the British Airways staff members.

The technical issue led to a lot of trouble, loss of time, and money to
Mr. Bajaj(name change), who was just one among the 197 passengers stuck at Baku. We, at Instalocate, helped him to get compensated for his losses.

If you were on this flight too, you can apply for the compensation here: http://app.instalocate.com/result?airline_code=BA&flight_number=199&date_of_dpt=2018-07-11

This was not the first time that a Mumbai-London British Airways flight had been diverted to Baku. On 11 December 2017, BA198 going from Mumbai to London was also diverted due to a technical snag. As per the passenger rights, you can claim compensation for long flight delays or cancellation happened in the past three years.
